WHAT:
In an effort to celebrate the many contributions that Latinos have made to music, WaMu has partnered with Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (LARAS) to produce The Latin Grammy Guide to Latin Music. The CD features a variety of genres of Latin music including Reggaeton, Ranchera, and Salsa. The compilation provides a variety of information to help music lovers better understand the history and influences that have shaped the rich and diverse sounds of Latin music.
To bring this partnership to the local community, legendary Cuban-born Salsa singer and Latin GRAMMY(R) nominee, Willy Chirino will be visiting students from James H Bright Elementary school at WaMu's Hialeah location at 635 West 49th Street. Chirino will give a brief music demonstration for about 50 students who will be presented with their own guitars. The school will also be awarded with an unrestricted grant of $5,000 from WaMu.
The first 250 people who visit the WaMu Hialeah location on Friday, November 2nd beginning at 9 am will receive CDs for Willy Chirino to sign.
