The U.S. Census 2000 reports that 32.8 million people or approximately one in eight people are of Hispanic origin. According to surveys done by Nielsen Net Ratings and Nua Internet Surveys, the online Spanish speaking population today has reached approximately 36 million people. A study commissioned by Terra Lycos indicated that, "US Hispanics spend 55 percent of their time using the Internet in Spanish."
