--(HISPANIC PR WIRE – US Newswire)--
ADVISORY for May 9
With millions of Latinos set to miss the May 15 cut-off date to sign up for Medicare’s complicated new prescription drug program, Rep. Hilda Solis, D-Calif., will join the Campaign for America’s Future at a news conference on Tuesday to discuss how the president’s new prescription drug program will effect the Latino community.
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator Mark McClellan last week refused a request from Rep. Solis and several other lawmakers asking for the release of Medicare Part D enrollment data by ethnicity.
The Bush administration says it won’t extend the May 15 deadline. The Campaign for America’s Future, leading Latino organizations and Democratic lawmakers are pressing Congress to let all of Medicare’s beneficiaries sign up for the new drug benefit after May 15, just as the Administration has agreed to do for some low-income people.
