Los Angeles, CA--(HISPANIC PR WIRE - BUSINESS WIRE)--Septeber 28, 2004--George A. Ramirez, market president for Union Bank of California, N.A., will receive the Annual Award from Familia Unida Living with Multiple Sclerosis (FULWMS), the first bilingual English-Spanish multiple sclerosis nonprofit organization in the United States, for his mentorship and contributions to the local community at the third Annual Familia Unida Gala Celebration of Life and Music dinner, November 4, 2004 in Downtown Los Angeles.

The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding leaders in the community whose work results in sustained and substantial contributions and leadership through educational, mentorship or other meritorious means.

Ramirez has more than twenty five years in the banking industry; he currently manages a division of over one hundred branch banking centers in Orange, Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, with approximately fourteen hundred employees. Ramirez has built a solid reputation as an innovative and highly experienced retail banker. He is chairman of the Small Business Finance Certified Development Corporation and Vice chairman for the White Memorial Media Center $300 MM Capital Campaign.

Founded in 1998 by Irma Resendez (after her own diagnosis of MS which left her paralyzed for almost a year), Familia Unida Living with Multiple Sclerosis is the first bilingual English-Spanish multiple sclerosis nonprofit organization in the United States serving thousands of individuals and families affected by multiple sclerosis and other debilitating diseases in the greater Los Angeles area. There are over 400,000 people living with multiple sclerosis in the United Sates and over 200 individuals newly diagnosed every week. This census does not include the many that are misdiagnosed or not counted due to language and cultural barriers. There is no cure.
