Partnership Led by Arte Moreno to Acquire Radio 830 KMXE; Deal to Create Bilingual Format and Expand Sports Broadcasting in Southern California
SHERMAN, OAKS, CA--(The Hispanic PR Monitor)--February, 2006--A partnership led by Arte Moreno, owner of The Angels, today agreed to purchase and assume the operations of Radio 830 KMXE, the nation's largest Spanish language AM radio station.
The partnership plans to complete acquisition of the station from Radiovisa, LLC upon approval of licensing by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Radio 830 KMXE currently produces and syndicates 24-hour programming, including Spanish language news, talk and sports. The station is also home to live coverage of University of Southern California football, NASCAR and The Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA soccer.
Under the new ownership, Radio 830 KMXE will serve as the flagship Hispanic radio broadcast outlet for Angels Baseball, staring with the
2006 season. In addition, the new ownership plans to convert to a bilingual format and expand the station's sports broadcast line-up.
"The acquisition of Radio 830 KMXE provides a new opportunity to bring play-by-play commentary and Angels game coverage to a large audience of Hispanic Major League Baseball fans," said Dennis Kuhl, a partner in the Radio 830 KMXE acquisition. "Once the transaction is complete the station's sports broadcast line-up will be expanded to a bilingual format, providing Hispanic sports enthusiasts with access to exciting regional, national and international sporting events. It will also provide an opportunity for advertisers to reach an audience with a buying power of more than $105 billion."
Broadcasting at 50,000 watts, Radio 830 KMXE boasts the largest Hispanic AM radio signal in the nation, providing programming to fans in the greater Los Angeles metro market.
Arte Moreno bought The Angels in 2003, making him the first Hispanic majority owner of a Major League Baseball team. The following year Moreno was named No. 1 on the Sports Illustrated list of 101 Most Influential Minorities in sports. |
