Former LA Weekly Publisher Jay Levin Launches Real Talk Media Group with Message ‘Get Ready to Get Real LA’
New digital media technology and glossy magazine target Los Angeles’ diverse audiences

Los Angeles, CA--(HISPANIC PR WIRE - BUSINESS WIRE)--February 20, 2007--Media pioneer Jay Levin, former publisher and founder of LA Weekly, announced today the launch of Los Angeles-based Real Talk Media Group, a media company that he founded to offer innovative, inclusive and authentic forms of media that target metropolitan communities. Levin also announced the launch of the company’s first properties, RealTALK LA magazine and Realtalkla.com, aimed at Los Angeles’ diverse communities.

“RealTALK LA and Realtalkla.com are re-inventing the concept of a city magazine and creating the next evolution of local online community,” said CEO and Creative Director Levin. “We’re out to capture the new spirit, culture and energy of a very changed 21st Century Los Angeles. That of course includes the multicultural diversity of the region. We’re creating inclusive media that gives a voice and a visible presence to all the people of LA. And for everyone we’re going to reveal far more of the exceptional range of mindsets, activities, felt lives and sectors that engage people here. Essentially we’re unmasking an unknown LA.”

The first issue of RealTALK LA, a full color, glossy, high quality monthly magazine, will reach more than 250,000 readers through free distribution at premium locations throughout the city and by home delivery to select households beginning in May 2007.

The companion Web site, RealTALKla.com, which is intended to create a new Los Angeles online community, will feature unique digital media technology, including up-to-the-minute news, Wiki, blogs, Web casts, social networking and a downloadable calendar of local events. The site will premiere online in late April and is expected to reach more than 800,000 unique viewers per month.

RealTALK LA and Realtalkla.com are targeting Los Angeles’ affluent, college-educated, trend-setting residents, including men and women, aged 25 to 49, of all cultural backgrounds, including those of Hispanic, Asian, African American, European and Middle Eastern descent. The non-European demographic alone comprises 700,000 households and 1.2 million adults in Los Angeles County with household incomes above $75,000 and averaging $105,000.

“Our awareness campaign for RealTALK LA and Realtalkla.com will be aggressive and tactical with a presence at more than 200 promotional events and marketing opportunities, including lifestyle events, that we believe will give advertisers unparalleled access to a loyal, targeted audience of new culture trend leaders," said Levin. "We want to provide advertisers with added-value by tying directly into the pulse of the communities that define the city."

RealTALK LA kicked off its initial launch campaign with a massive outdoor advertising throughout Los Angeles with the message, “Get Ready to Get Real LA.”

Along with Levin, the leadership team of RealTALK Media Group includes publisher and executive vice president Karen Fund, former LA Style publisher and LA Weekly chair and associate publisher; editor Judita Jordan, former editor at large for Latin Style magazine and writer and reporter for magazines and newspapers including Hollywood Reporter, Estylo, Venice and Star; and Sridhar Rao, president of digital, co-founder of Exchange.com which was sold to Amazon.com.

Coverage in upcoming issues of the magazine and Web site include features on LA’s transformation; on the true, unreported economics of the region; on multicultural Hollywood – and primarily on individuals whose lives, points of view and activities will entertain the readers and alter their perceptions of the community in which they live.
