WASHINGTON, April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) proudly named Representative Catherine Miranda (AZ) as Chair and Representative Roberto Alonzo (TX) as Vice-Chair of the International Relations, Trade and Immigration Task Force. Representative Alonzo, who served as Vice Chair during the past term, will provide his support and expertise as the Task Force advances policy views and recommendations that fix our broken immigration laws and that promote stronger hemispheric relations and trade.
After receiving her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and masters in Educational Leadership, Representative Miranda's (AZ) legislative priority has been centered on education with a special focus on Dream Act students. "As Chair of the International Relations, Trade and Immigration Task Force, the focus will be to visit and communicate with advocates of immigration reform in critical communities throughout the United States. Our goal is advancing immigration reform at the federal level."
Representative Alonzo (TX) describes his passion for the task force as he has been in the front lines of immigration reform in the Texas legislature. "I am truly honored to accept the appointment to co-chair the International Relations, Trade & Immigration Task Force of NHCSL. As a state lawmaker from Texas, a state that shares one of the largest borders with Mexico, our border to the south - I have always been a firm believer that immigration reform efforts should focus on what we can do best to highlight the many positive contributions that our immigrant population brings to the entire country as a whole, rather than just our state alone," stated Representative Alonzo (TX).
The NHCSL is the premier national association of Hispanic state legislators working to design and implement policies and procedures that will improve the quality of life for Hispanics throughout the country. NHCSL was founded in 1989 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to be the most effective voice for the more than 340 Hispanic legislators.
