LOS ANGELES, CA--(HISPANIC PR WIRE - BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 2003--Renan Almendarez Coello, "El Cucuy de la Tarde," the #1 radio personality in Los Angeles, on Univision Radio's KSCA La Nueva 101.9FM, along with his Tropa Loca ("Crazy Crew") held a live broadcast Saturday, November 1st, kicking-off the first of three free diabetes screening events for the Hispanic community, at the California Hospital Medical Center, in downtown Los Angeles. The "El Cucuy Diabetes Screenings" mark another step forward for Renan in his mission to help Hispanics live a more fulfilled life, giving the community the gift of knowledge of how to live with this deadly disease. All three of the free diabetes screening events were sponsored by the Rite Aid Foundation and First Data Western Union Foundation, in partnership with the "El Cucuy Foundation", Renan's non-profit agency, which strives to help individuals improve their lives and overcome obstacles.

The "El Cucuy Diabetes Screenings" were created to inform the Hispanic community that a simple test can save a life, as well as to educate people of the signs and symptoms of the disease. The events were held at the local California Hospital Medical Center and Family Health Clinics in Los Angeles with Rite Aid pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on hand to assist and counsel patients and large crowds of Renan's loyal listeners coming out to participate in the free testing. The overall results of the "El Cucuy Diabetes Screenings" confirm the fact that diabetes is a serious problem that is affecting the Hispanic population in alarming numbers. 1414 people were screened and of this number 103 were referred to the California Hospital Medical Center clinic because of high blood glucose levels.

The "El Cucuy Diabetes Screenings" event is another successful accomplishment by Renan and his foundation towards their mission: to help improve the lives of people who find themselves in difficult situations due to a financial crisis, a medical illness or legal troubles, by helping break down boundaries that limit individuals and families from having fulfilled lives.
