NEW YORK, June 18 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- With a growing emphasis on savings in the current economy, Citibank has launched a new promotion to encourage Hispanic consumers to save their hard-earned money while at the same time helping them display their enthusiasm for soccer. The new soccer promotion from Citibank includes giveaways of soccer-themed merchandise, such as an official jersey from one of ten national teams when consumers open an interest-bearing checking and a savings account.
"This promotion is our way of encouraging soccer fans to feel as passionately about saving as they do about the sport," said Peter Knitzer, Group Executive Vice President, Citi. "At Citibank, we want to show our customers that we not only have products and services to suit their financial needs, but also that we share their enthusiasm for the world's most popular sport."
Fans who get started on reaching their savings goals by opening a new Citibank interest-bearing checking and a savings account with a qualifying deposit will receive a soccer ball, sports bag and an official team jersey from one of ten national teams. The promotion launches on June 15, 2009 and runs through July 31, 2009.
On June 18, fans in Los Angeles will have the chance to meet and get an autograph from legendary mid-fielder Ramon Ramirez at the local Citibank branch in Reseda. Known for his great technique, Ramirez is considered one of the best players of Club Deportivo Guadalajara. He also played on other Mexican teams including America, Tigres and Chivas USA, and was a regular member of Mexico's national team.
Also, as part of the soccer promotion, Citibank is proud to be associated with Alianza de Futbol Hispano as the official bank sponsor of soccer tournaments being held throughout the month of June in Corona Park, Queens, New York.
