About Friends of the Orphans
A 40-year-old non-profit organization with regional offices in six states, Friends of the Orphans is dedicated to improving the lives of orphaned, abandoned and disadvantaged children through the support of the NPH network of orphanages in Latin America and the Caribbean. NPH currently cares for more than 3,300 children in Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. Through the generosity of sponsors, donors and volunteers, Friends of the Orphans helps NPH provide children with a loving and stable home, food, clothing, health care, education and hope for the future. When children leave NPH, they are prepared to be productive, self-sufficient and caring members of their own communities. Since its founding in 1954, NPH has assisted over 15,000 children. In addition, NPH outreach programs, including a free pediatric hospital in Haiti, serve over 30,000 children and adults each year.
In 2007, for the second straight year, Friends of the Orphans achieved a program services expense ratio of 78%, meeting and exceeding all standards of charity accountability established by the Better Business Bureau and has been granted its National Charity Seal.
