WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- American Task Force Argentina (ATFA) today announced the addition of The Latino Coalition (TLC) to the growing coalition of organizations pursuing a fair resolution of Argentina's unpaid debts to United States citizens. In 2001, the nation defaulted on $81 billion in obligations to investors -- the largest sovereign debt default in history -- and restructured its debt on unprecedented and unfair terms. Argentina's actions have had serious global consequences, especially in the U.S.
"Year after year, the Argentine government, led by President Kirchner and her predecessor, has mishandled Argentina's economy and blatantly ignored a series of judgments handed down by U.S. courts," ATFA Co-Chair Rob Shapiro said. "ATFA's mission is to fairly resolve this situation and we greatly appreciate the support of The Latino Coalition, which will help advocate on behalf of the millions of American taxpayers affected by the Argentine debt restructuring."

ATFA member organizations have advocated for several years for a just reconciliation of the Argentine government's 2001 debt default and 2005 restructuring. The partnership with TLC will add momentum to the coalition's efforts to encourage the U.S. government to vigorously seek fair treatment for U.S. taxpayers, including the Latino community.
"All Americans are affected by Argentina's debt default, but the Latino community is directly impacted because of the significant progress we've made in business and government," The Latino Coalition Executive Director Allen Gutierrez said. "Our partnership with ATFA will assist us in our mission to achieve full economic and social potential for our members in the United States and champion policies in the best interest of the Latino community."
