Many Hispanic immigrant workers send money to their families in Mexico and other Latin American countries-often more than once a month. Typical sending fees are between $8.00 and $20.00, depending on the amount and destination that the money is being sent to. That can add up, to serious costs, when you send money every month. One of Familia Premaro's initial undertakings was to create a simple and safe way to transfer money at a greatly reduced cost.

"We believe that lowering the cost of sending money to $2.95 per transfer, is an important benefit for our members. However, now that we have added a free, simple, and secure way for our members to get their pay checks cashed, without having to pay the outrageous 3-5% fees at the check cashing stores, we are able to save our members from $600 - $900 each year."
The lower cost money transfer system, available for Familia Primero(TM) members, requires two debit cards ... issued for a one time $5.00 fee for both. One card is for the Familia Primero(TM) member-the other is for their family receiving the funds. How much money can be sent for $2.95? Any amount from $100.00 to $1,000.00. Transfers can be made as often as twice a month.
Another member benefit being considered is lowering cell phone rates to and from Mexico and other Latin American countries.

"Increasing political and educational empowerment for the Hispanic immigrant community is an important part of our agenda," says Suarez.

Signatures will be sorted by zip code, tying the numbers to congressional districts for engaging congressional members on the specifics of our needs. The time for keeping quiet, about our need for more positive immigration laws is over."
